The Girly Day Guide: South Granville
I’ve been missing my old neighbourhood so here’s how to spend the best day ever in South Granville
South Granville holds such a special place in my heart. It’s where I entered “young adulthood” - the HBO’s Girls period of my life one might say. The first job I got in Vancouver, my first solo apartment, the dating app years, endless hot girl walks with new friends and so many amazing memories all took place there. A lot can happen in ten years and leaving was bittersweet.
The weekend before I left, I made sure to spend a full day shopping, strolling and snacking as I have countless times over the years.
Here are my tips to have the best girly day ever in South Granville.
Fuel Up at Small Victory
The Best Bakery in South Granville
I have tried so many bakeries in Vancouver and none have remained as consistent and dependable over the years as Small Victory. I’ve tried almost the entire menu and I can confidently tell you if you close you eyes and point to something - you will like it.
My recommendations are the chocolate chip cookie (truly the best in the city), any croissant, the salted caramel cheesecake and the tiramisu. Again, you really can’t go wrong. I miss it so very much.
South Granville was also my favourite for the amazing little outdoor spaces they created. Grab your goodies and head out there for a snack and some sunshine on a nice day.
Let’s Shop!
South Granville has some great little clothing boutiques to browse. Most locally owned and independent. Here are a few of my faves:
Turnabout: A bougee thrifter’s dream. Turnabout is a local luxury consignement store in Vancouver with two location on Granville - one with high end luxury and the other with more affordable options like Aritzia and Lululemon. Make sure to check the tags for additional discounts.
Zebra Club: The “cool girl” spot for some unique finds. Their fragrance selection is heaven for indie beauty brand lovers. They also collaborate with local artists for their window displays.
Latest Scoop: This girly boutique has taken some notes from their old neighbour Anthropologie. Full of candles and home decor in addition to their women’s apparel. It’s a great spot to pick up a gift.
Value Village Boutique: If Turnabout was a little too pricey for you, this Value Village is where you need to be. It’s a little more curated than the typical VV and has some fantastic options. I found my favourite Danier leather coat for 20 bucks here.
Treat Yourself
It’s time to pick up a couple of frivolous fun items for a “treat yourself” moment à la Parks & Rec…
Flower Power
Meinhardts has the most stunning flowers for pretty good prices. The rest of this luxury grocery store is anything but affordable but it sure is fun to browse.
A Novel Idea
Indigo is the anchor store on the street. It’s massive with two levels and so much to see. Their employees are lovely every time so stop by to check out the new arrivals and pick yourself up a new book.
Chill Out
I would be remiss to not mention Muse Cannabis. If this isn’t your thing, no worries, it’s not for everyone so just jump ahead. Muse is the nicest dispensary I have ever been to. It’s in an old art gallery with dark wood and high ceilings. It’s one of the most aesthetic stores on the street. Their service is so friendly, attentive and most importantly, knowledgeable. A little edible for later? Don’t mind if I do!
Dinner & A Drink
After all that dilly-dallying, you’ve earned a cocktail before dinner. Grapes & Soda is hidden gem on 6th. Tucked away under an apartment building, it’s easy to miss and unassuming but inside is a cozy dream. It’s the perfect spot for a quick sip and chat ahead of your reso.
My dinner spot recommendation is Gary’s. With it’s minimalist decor, the focus is all about the food. They have a tasting menu that is great bang for your buck at $71/pp. It was also recently featured on Michelin’s best date night spots list so you know it’s fancy.
There you have it, the perfect day in South Granville. I hope you enjoy this guide. Add what you like and remove what you don’t like and have the best time ever. And say hi to the old hood for me.
